The Geographic Information Systems Department supervises the development of services and digital geographic information at the Directorate of Town Planning and Survey within the environment of the comprehensive geographic system. It updates the geographic databases and develops advanced geographic practices and online services that contribute to boosting efficiency and precision. In addition, the department supports users as regards the geographic programmes and practices used for performing daily work.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Supervising all the digital maps and geographic data of the directorate and ensuring they are continually updated.
  • Providing all types of digital maps and geographic data and aerial photographs of the Emirate of Sharjah to the government authorities and departments or private sector establishments assigned to carry out government projects.
  • Checking, analysing and monitoring the quality of maps and geographic data.
  • Developing the practices of the geographic information systems in a bid to help users in their daily work.
  • Updating the maps and geographic data taken from all internal or external sources (for instance, from the cadastral files, consultants etc.)
  • Providing technical support to the users and assisting all departments in any matter related to the geographic information technology (for instance, downloading engineering and geographic drawing programmes and solving the problems of geographic practices).
