The centre previously started as a research and study division within the framework of the Directorate of Town Planning and Survey at Sharjah Municipality. The division turned into a centre in 1998 following the establishment of the Directorate of Town Planning and Survey. The centre reports directly to the director general.

Tasks & Responsibilities

• Compiling and preparing the (economic, physical and demographic) preliminary studies to accomplish the comprehensive plan of the Emirate of Sharjah.
• Conducting the different surveys and investigations for the urban and housing indicators.
• Under taking the tasks and following up the correspondence of H.E the Director General, which have a technical nature.
• Updating the components of the comprehensive plan regularly, providing the required technical support for the departments of the Directorate of Town Planning and Survey in the field of studies and developing the laws and criteria of constructional planning.
• Developing the laws and physical planning standards.
• Conducting the studies related to the components of the housing sector.
• Tracking the initiatives of the United Nations Development Programme with respect to conducting urban studies.
• Supervising the directorate’s library and tracking the subscription to scientific periodicals.
